With the strong development of the Internet and big data, the construction of 5G information infrastructure is in full swing. With the implementation of national strategic policies such as Made in China 2025, the integration of industrialization and industrialization, and cloud computing, it is expected that the central market of the communications industry will maintain rapid growth in the next few years. MTP/ MPO fiber patch cord has become the mainstream fiber patch cord at present. There are two types of optical fiber connectors, MTP and MPO, on the market today. They are very similar and are compatible with each other to a certain extent. What is the difference between them? Shengke Communication will take you to understand one by one.
What is an MPO connector?
MPO is the abbreviation of "multi-fiber pull off". The ferrule of this connector has more than one fiber core, which is mechanically snapped into place.
Nowadays, various manufacturers on the market have a variety of MPO designs, and different types of connection products have very different performance and costs. The characteristics of some products make their performance more prominent. Some MPO connectors can match products of many different brands, but some cannot. This interoperability depends on how close the design of these connectors is to standard products. For the complete definition of MPO connector, please refer to the implementation of IEC-61754-7 and EIA/TIA-604-5 (aka FOCIS 5).

What is MTP fiber optic connector?
MTP connector is a high-performance MPO connector with multiple innovative designs. MTP is a brand of MPO optical fiber connector produced and registered by US Conec, USA. Its multi-core connector parts and ferrules are specifically called MTP Connector. Compared with general MPO connectors, MTP optical fiber connectors have been enhanced in optical and mechanical properties. MTP connectors fully comply with all professional standards of MPO connectors, including EIA/TIA-604-5 FOCIS 5 and IEC-61754-7.

The MPO type connector is a mutually mateable MTP connector that meets industry standards, which means that it is feasible to replace the MPO connector with an MTP connector to obtain better performance. The performance of most MPO connectors that follow the old design is quite limited and cannot provide the same high performance as MTP fiber optic connectors.
Why is the MTP connector described as a high-performance MPO connector?
The performance and usability of the specially designed MTP connector are improved compared with the MPO connector. This design feature of MTP is unique and protected by patents. The main features are as follows:
1. The outer frame cover of MTP optical fiber connector can be easily removed.
The MT ferrule design can ensure that performance is not lost during rework and regrind during production. The negative and positive can be flexibly changed even on site after assembly, and interference detection can be performed after the ferrule is assembled.
2. The floating ferrule of the MTP optical fiber connector can improve the transmission performance during mechanical docking. The two connectors are allowed to maintain good physical contact with the mating ferrules under the influence of external force.
3. The elliptical guide pin (PIN) of the MTP optical fiber connector is made of stainless steel. The elliptical guide pin can improve the accuracy of the docking and reduce the wear of the guide hole, so that the MTP optical fiber connector can maintain high-performance transmission more durable.
4. There is a metal pin clamp in the MTP fiber connector to fix the push ring. Specific features:
Prevent loss of the guide pin;
The pressure generated by the concentrated spring;
Prevent the spring from touching and rubbing the optical fiber during the mechanical expansion and contraction process to cause damage to the optical fiber;
5. The spring design of the MTP optical fiber connector maximizes the band gap for 12-core and multi-core ribbon applications to prevent fiber damage.
6. The MTP optical fiber connector has at least four standard matching parts, which can be adapted to different types of optical cables, which is more practical, including:
Round fiber optic cable with loose tube structure;
Ribbon optical cable with elliptical outer jacket;
Ribbon bare fiber;
The ultra-short tail sleeve connector parts are very suitable for use in small spaces and reduce the volume by 45%.
