Product overview

This is a 12-fiber MTP to LC breakout cable: one MTP-12 APC female connector on one end fans out to six LC UPC duplex connectors on the other. It converts a single high-density MTP/MPO backbone port into individual LC connections at a patch panel or transceiver, so you can migrate a standard duplex environment to parallel-optic cabling without adding separate fiber runs.

It is a breakout assembly - also called a harness or fan-out cable. That is different from an MTP trunk cable, which is terminated with MTP/MPO connectors on both ends and carries the backbone link between two high-density points. If you need MTP-to-MTP instead of MTP-to-LC, use the trunk version.

Polarity and wire map

Polarity defines how fibers map from the MTP end to the LC end.

  • Type A (straight): key-up to key-down, position 1 → 1 through 12 → 12.
  • Type B (reversed): key-up to key-up, position 1 → 12; the most common choice for MTP-to-LC breakout in duplex transceiver links.
  • Type C (pairs-flipped): adjacent fiber pairs are swapped at one end.

Applications and compatibility

MTP/MPO backbone to LC patch panels in high-density data center cabling.

Switch-to-patch-panel and equipment-room single-mode connections.

Migration from duplex links toward parallel optics such as 40G QSFP-SR4 and 100G QSFP28-SR4 architectures.

Mates through MTP/MPO adapters at the panel or cassette.

  • The cable itself does not set the link speed or reach. Actual data rate and distance depend on the transceivers, fiber grade, connector loss and total link budget - size the assembly to match those.

Available configurations

The 12-fiber OS2 build is offered across fiber counts and connectors - for example an 8-fiber MTP to LC breakout and a 24-fiber MTP to LC OM3 breakout. An MPO female to LC UPC OS2 variant is also available if your ports use the MPO designation.

Connector B LC duplex / LC simplex / SC / FC / ST
Gender Female / Male

Frequently asked questions

Q: What is the difference between an MTP breakout cable and an MTP trunk cable?

A: A breakout (harness / fan-out) cable has one MTP/MPO connector that splits out to individual LC, SC, FC or ST connectors. An MTP trunk cable is terminated with MTP/MPO connectors on both ends and carries the backbone between two high-density points. This product is a breakout: MTP-12 on one end, 6 LC duplex on the other.

Q: Should I choose an MTP male or female connector?

A: Two mated MTP connectors must be one male (with pins) and one female (without pins). Match the gender to the port or adapter you plug into - most cassettes and adapters take a female MTP. The default here is MTP-12 APC female; male is available on request.

Q: What polarity do I need for an MTP-to-LC breakout cable?

A: Type A, B and C define how fibers map from the MTP end to the LC end.

Q: What is the difference between OS2, OM3 and OM4 for this cable?

A: OS2 is 9/125 single mode for long-distance links at 1310/1550 nm. OM3 and OM4 are 50/125 laser-optimized multimode for shorter 850 nm links. This page defaults to OS2; the same assembly is offered in OM3 and OM4.

Q: Can the breakout (fan-out) leg length be customized?

A: Yes. Overall cable length runs 1–80 m, and the fan-out leg length is available at 0.3 m, 0.5 m, 1 m and 2 m, or custom on request. Leg tubing can be 900 µm, 2.0 mm or 3.0 mm.

Q: Is every assembly supplied with an IL/RL test report?

A: Yes. Each assembly is factory-terminated, 100% insertion-loss and return-loss tested, and packaged individually in a static-free bag with its test report.
