The performance of the optical fiber connector is first of all the optical performance. In addition, the interchangeability, repeatability, tensile strength, temperature and insertion times of the optical fiber connector should also be considered.

(1) Optical performance: the requirements for optical performance of optical fiber connectors are mainly the two most basic parameters, insertion loss and return loss.

Insertion loss, i.e. connection loss, refers to the loss of the effective optical power of the link caused by the introduction of the connector. The smaller the insertion loss, the better. It is generally required that the insertion loss should not be greater than 0.5dB.

Return loss (reflection loss) refers to the ability of the connector to suppress the reflection of link optical power, and its typical value shall not be less than 25dB. For practical connectors, the pin surface has been specially polished to make the return loss larger, generally not less than 45dB.


(2) Interchangeability and repeatability

The optical fiber connector is a general passive device. For the same type of optical fiber connector, it can be used in any combination and can be used repeatedly. Therefore, the additional loss introduced is generally within the range of less than 0.2db.


(3) Tensile strength

Generally, the tensile strength of the finished optical fiber connector shall not be less than 90N.


(4) Temperature

Generally, the optical fiber connector must be able to operate normally at the temperature of - 40oC ~ + 70oC.


(5) Plugging times

The optical fiber connectors used can be plugged and unplugged for more than 1000 times.

Performance of optical fiber connector

The performance consumption of optical fiber connector is lower than that of "PC", and it is generally used for equipment with special needs. Some manufacturers use FC / UPC for the internal jumper of optical connection equipment, mainly to improve the indicators of the equipment itself. " APC "is mostly used in radio and television and early CATV systems. Because APC uses an inclined end face, the quality of TV signals can be improved. The main reason is that TV signals are modulated by analog light. When the coupling surface of the connector is vertical, the reflected light returns along the original path. Since the uneven refractive index distribution of the optical fiber will return to the coupling surface again, although the energy is small at this time, the analog signal can not completely eliminate the noise, so it is equivalent to superimposing a weak signal with time delay on the original clear signal, and the performance picture is ghost. The inclination of the pigtail head can prevent the reflected light from returning along the original path. This problem generally does not exist in general digital signals.


Connection steps

1. The optical fiber quick connector is a highly innovative field termination connector. It contains factory preassembled optical fibers, pre polished ceramic ferrules and a mechanical connection mechanism.

2. When terminating, it is only necessary to insert the incoming optical fiber or indoor optical fiber into the mechanical connection mechanism, without using other tools. The termination process takes only about 2 minutes, greatly saving the installation time.

3. The ferrule and end face inside the optical fiber quick connector are pre ground and pre polished before delivery. The mechanical connection mechanism is located at the end of the ferrule to fix the inserted optical fiber.

4. The mechanical connection mechanism is mainly composed of V-groove and clamping element; When the optical fiber needs to be inserted, open the V-shaped groove with a wedge clamp to facilitate the smooth insertion of the optical fiber.

5. When the optical fiber is inserted into the V-shaped groove and fixed, pull out the wedge clamp from the V-shaped groove.
